• You may be aware that Michael had quadruple bypass surgery in August. He is coming back just fine, but in the meantime living expenses and medical expenses not covered by his insurance are mounting up.

「哀しみの序章」Bluer Than Blue (1978)や「この夜の果てに」This Night Won't Last Forever (1979)、「I'll Always Love You」(1980)といったAORを代表するセンチメンタルな名曲、カントリーに移って「Give Me Wings」(1986)などをヒットさせ、一度阿蘇のカントリー・ジャンボリーとかに呼ばれて来日したはずの(知ってたけど行けやしなかった...)、シンガー＆ギタリストのマイケル・ジョンソンさんが8月に心臓バイパス手術を受けたというのは知りませんでしたが、現在その高額な手術費の支払いが出来る程の経済力がないほどで、知り合いのアーティストたちが「Friends of Michael Johnson」という基金を立ち上げて、ドナー協力を始めました。私もかなり彼の歌を聴いてきたので少しでも参加しないとと...。
なお、そのお友達の中には日本では本人の歌の方が大人気の「この夜の果て」の作者ビル・ラバウンティはもちろん、アリソン・クラウス(彼女のアルバムにはギターと歌で参加している)、エイミー・グラント、カントリー界の大スターのヴィンス・ギル、「哀しみの序章」など名曲いっぱいのランディ・グッドラム、ランディ・リーム...。といったAOR、MORを好きな人ならご存じの人が並んでおります。本人は来週あたりからコンサート復帰して某所では追加公演もあったりするようですが、日本もBillboard Tokyoとか呼んでくれたりしないもんでしょうか... (来月はシーナが出るんだし)。
