メトロポリタン歌劇場125周年記念ガラ＋プラシド・ドミンゴ・メト・ビュー40周年記念の特別コンサートのストリーミング生放送を朝7時からやっていたので、聴くことに。お馴染みな曲ばかりで4時間半以上ありましたが、あっという間という感じ。歌手はメト初演時の衣装をつかったり、ないものは再現したりしたものを着て歌うというので、歴史的に興味深い試みで、セットはいくつかは初演時を再現したり、歌う前にスケッチや写真などが投影されてから演奏を始めるというスタイルだったので、ラジオで聴いていると歌う前までにかなり無音の状態があり、聴く公演というより見てなんぼの公演。でも、それはかなりの高額料金を払った人のための特別なサービス (最高額は10数万円)。で、セレブもかなり来場したとのことで、この後見に行く映画『それでも恋するバルセロナ』に出演しているパトリシア・クラークソンなんかもファンド・レイザーの一人として参加していた。
残念ながら出来は万全というものではなく、ルネ・パペが３曲歌う予定だったけど、不調ということで、ジョン・レリエイ、ジョン・トムリンソン、ジェイムズ・モリスがそれぞれ担当。で、モリスはやっぱり、あ〜あ。デブラ・ボイトもおぞましく。注目のマイヤ・コヴァレフスカはシャンゼリゼ劇場でのマルク・ミンコフスキ指揮《フィガロの結婚》を終えて間もなくの参加でしたが、なんだかな〜。マルチェッロ・ジョルダーニは「誰も寝てはならぬ」をアンコール込み二回歌ったけど、例の如くなんだかな〜。今年の年末に新演出されるリチャード・エア演出《カルメン》ですが、ここではその主演でやればいいものをヴァルトラウト・マイアーが歌い、全く合わず。アラーニャはなぜか妻ゲオルギューとはデュエットをわざとしないのも釈然としない。ナタリー2Cはなぜヴィオレッタをこんな時に歌うのか？とは言っても、以前より妙なイタリア語発音が改善されつつあるようで、声の途切れも一応微妙にない感じに歌えたけど、やっとという感じ。これを歌うのは本当に危険。夏のサンタフェ以後か途中で休業ということになりかねない。
で、40周年のドミンゴは相変わらず化け物で、もう辞めた《オテッロ》を再び歌ったり、バリトン役だけど《シモン・ボッカネグラ》などチャレンジングなことをしておりました。登板が多くて疲れは見えたけど。
記念ガラの割に、ゆかりの人とかが案外不参加だったのは、現在各地でシーズン真っ盛りなせい。スーザン・グレアム、ミスター・Vもパリだし。
TV収録していたのかは不明ですが、していたとしたら、これからはメトのHD収録は自社でリリースするようなので、それ用に残しているのかも。それにしても、歴史を振り返るとやっぱり、演目はお馴染みすぎて、マリア・カラスがもっと他のがやりたいといって喧嘩して解雇されたのがよくわかる。今回、やっと歌われたのはレネイことルネ・フレミングの希望で選ばれたコルンゴルトの《死の都》ぐらいで、以前の音楽監督だったらあり得ない選曲。以前はキリの希望で《カプリッチョ》が上演されたりしたけど、今その地位にあるのは彼女で、来年はロッシーニの《アルミーダ》なんてのが初上演されることに。この演目こそカラスが蘇らせてものですが、彼女をもってしてもメトで上演されなかった演目なので、上に立つ人が変わるとこうも違ってくるといういい例です。
